Bohemian chic, when the runway takes over your home

Coachella and other festivals had big impacts on fashion designer and inspired a lot of collections lately! So much so that it is taking over interiors and outdoors… Bohemian style is all about plants, flowers, colors, patterns  and texture; to keep it chic and glamorous, the best is to not overdo it. If not carefully selected and mixed, bohemian can look messy and overwhelming. Bohemian, is also a lifestyle, a relaxed, low-key way of living; therefore, the way the furniture and accents are displayed plays an important role in the styling of your boho chic space. Hope the images below will inspire you and help you create a bohemian and chic home.

How to make the most of your load-bearing column?

Unfortunately, sometimes, engineering and technology, gets in the way of your perfect home design. Imagine, this beautiful space where you could create your dream home, if only, you could take down this one column (or more) in the middle of the room… Fortunately, creative minds, find a way to make the most of these annoying columns and use them as design elements. First, you have to think about furniture placement around these to optimize the space, then you have to find a way to make the most of it by finding a column design that will either take the room to another level, or make it as discreet as possible. Here are some the best ideas of load-bearing columns I have selected for you.

Use it as a display niche, to place art, flowers, pictures etc…
Make it part of room and use it to define a room; i.e: to separate the kitchen from the dining room .
Make it match other pieces of furniture to create symmetry and harmony

Use a different material to perfect a style
Use a different style that contrasts with the rest of the room for an eclectic and edgy design

Add them to add character and authenticity to an otherwise very modern and simple decor.
To perfect a mediterranean style.

Use them to add grandeur and elegance to your home.
…Still hate it and want to make it as discreet as possible?  Then, first,  choose a classic style column design and work with your structural engineer or architect to discuss how large and how simple they can be .

Then, carefully pick a paint and finish for a polished, simple and sophisticated look. I would usually advise for a matte finish.

Incorporating gold and brass in your decor

One of the 2016 design trends is the comeback of metallics, especially brass and copper. For a while contemporary interiors did not have those last two, as they were categorized as “old-fashion” materials that will not blend well in modern interiors. Even more classic interiors were styled with silver and chrome to give a more modern feel. However, in today’s designs we see them more and more and its all in the details… Subtlety is key to incorporate those materials and colours to create a contemporary, glamour and sophisticated interior. Here are some the best designs with brass and gold, room by room.
